Luke 22 according to Papyrus 69 41 He
was withdrawn from them about a
stone’s throw, and he knelt down and prayed,
45 When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping, put to sleep because of grief, 46 and said to them, “[2]Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 47 While
he was still speaking, a crowd appeared. He who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near [..] 58 After a little while someone else saw him, and said, “You also are one of them!” But 59 After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!” 60 But
Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” Immediately,
while he was
still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61

Luke 22 according to Uncial 0171 44 Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.[4] 45 When
he rose up from 47 While
he was still speaking, a crowd appeared. He who

those who were around him
saw what was
about to happen, they said to him,
“ [..] 52 Jesus
said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, 54 They seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed from a distance. 55 When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and had sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said, “This man also was with him.” [..] 61 The
Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered
the Lord’s word, 63 The men who
held Jesus him mocked him
[1] The critical text also omits verses 43-44. This manuscript may be unique in also omitting verse 42. [2] The papyrus has a gap allowing about four letters before the word “Why,” implying there originally was another word there. [3] It is uncertain what is written here because the papyrus is missing, but since the manuscript has Peter turning rather than Jesus, I assume that Jesus is what he looked at. [4] The critical text omits verses 43-44 but this manuscript includes them. [5] The manuscript agrees with the critical text. [6] Here part of the manuscript is missing, so it is not certain if it says they “mocked him” or they “beat him,” but the missing space doesn’t have room for both. |
How to read these pages: • The
translation to the left is based on the World English Bible. Words in regular
